Two different jobs
Oral placement is an optional Home check: about ten minutes of speaking, a suggested band, and certificate-style reference tags. It never auto-changes class difficulty and does not replace a teacher-assigned speaking exam.
Speaking exams have assignment, due dates, and retained scores—midterms, interview drills, or records the school must keep.
At term start
Need a starting point? Ask students to take placement; teachers read the roster summary. Need a score on file? Assign an exam. Copy and entry points stay distinct; do not brief it as “placement that also counts as the exam.”
